2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is a crossover that sits in the current range below the larger Santa Fe but above the smaller Tucson. It did have a bit of a makeover last year at the front and the back, but the changes weren't huge. That was probably entirely appropriate as this is a model that appears to have got everything just about right. So, let's take a look at what Hyundai has got so spot-on with the Santa Fe Sport.

Last year's new bumpers, headlights, taillights and reshaped grille took what was already a fantastically well designed crossover to an even higher level. This is quite possibly the most attractive SUV in the current Hyundai family, and that's saying something. It has a very strong resemblance to the models above and below it in the Hyundai range, and it's not a million miles away from the look of some of its rivals. It's got enough edges and angles to make it entirely contemporary, but not too many so that it becomes polarizing. The size of the Santa Fe Sport plants it firmly in the middle of its class for interior space, which is a pretty good place to be for mass-appeal. The South Korean automaker's designers have done an outstanding job of packaging the interior of this model to make the absolute most of the available space, and the quality of the trim and materials is impressive throughout the range. A deep console sits between the front passenger seats that contains twin cup holders and a bin for storing a smartphone conveniently placed in front of the shift lever.

Hyundai may have left behind its days of being a purveyor of cheap and cheerful vehicles, but value for money is still a core value of the brand that's easy to see when you look at the list of standard and available features and equipment. All versions of the Santa Fe Sport come with standard kit that includes: cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, keyless entry, a six-speaker AM/FM/XM/CD stereo, auxiliary and USB ports, and Bluetooth with audio streaming. Even base models can be upgraded with options as upscale as all-wheel drive, a 7-inch infotainment screen, an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, a surround-view camera, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, a hands-free tailgate, keyless ignition, heated and ventilated seats, and advanced safety features.
